William Shimer & Sons Co. Cast Iron No. 15 Donkey Drawn “Dumping Cart” Coal Wagon 

We have for you a cast iron donkey-drawn “Dumping Cart” coal cart/wagon that was manufactured by William Shimer & Sons Company of Freemansburg, Pennsylvania. We were able to fid this in the Shimer 1905 catalog (as seen in the pictures). It is also a close match to an Ives donkey-drawn coal cart.  

There is beautiful Japanning on the donkey and the paint has stood the test of time. The driver is a replacement. All accessories seen in the photograph are included.  

This piece is in great all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch-ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories, and wear that are to be expected from age and play.  A brief history of William Shimer & Sons Company of Freemansburg, Pennsylvania:  

William Shimer & Sons Company of Freemansburg, Pennsylvania was founded by William Shimer and was in operation from 1875-1913. Shimer manufactured a line of cast iron toys including banks, trains, horse-drawn toys, and a few small automobiles around 1909-1910. Their toys often featured front foot oscillating mechanisms on the horses or oxen. Firecracker cannons made by Shimer & Sons Co. carried a patent date of April 23, 1895. They were made in a whole series of graduated sizes. After a fire that destroyed the factory, Shimer closed its doors in 1913.
