Weeden Manufacturing Co. No. 124 “Excelsior” Horizontal Live Steam Engine *SOLD*
Weeden Manufacturing Co. No. 124 “Excelsior” Horizontal Live Steam Engine
This is a No. 124 “Excelsior” horizontal steam engine manufactured by Weeden Manufacturing Co. of New Bedford, Massachusetts.
We did not fire this engine up, but the pistons and the flywheel spin and move as expected and operate smoothly by hand. The burner is included. The burner door is present, attached, and operates as it should. The oft lost water level sight glass is not intact. The pipe on the side on both ends appears to have resoldered back in to place, but has since come loose again.
The Weeden No. 124 “Excelsior” is a similar engine to the No. 121, both engines were designed by Edgar Side and acquired by Weeden. This engine was introduced in about 1919 and only produced for a short period.
Our example of this Weeden live horizontal steam engine is in great all original condition with no restorations, repairs, or touch ups (other than those mentioned above). This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. It is approximately 16 ½” H and the base is 14 ½” L X 10″ W. This would be a great and impressive addition to any collection. We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.
