Shimer/Ideal & Ives Pairing Cast Iron Fire Patrol Wagon with Horses Original *SOLD*

Shimer & Ives Pairing Cast Iron Fire Patrol Wagon with Horses

We have for you this cast iron paring of a Shimer/Ideal & Ives Fire Patrol Wagon. The horses and the driver were manufactured by Ives Corp. of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The wagon and firemen were manufactured by the William Shimer & Sons Company of Freemansburg Pennsylvania.

Cast iron Fire Patrol Wagons like these, can be found in John J. Olshefski’s Cast Iron Horse Drawn Toys: Fire & Police Wagons on pgs. 195 & 196.

This pairing came to us just as it is and we feel these two pieces are very desirable on their own, but look just as wonderful together as a set. The set comes with one wagon, six firemen, one driver, and two horses. The rubber tires on the front part of the wagon are mostly there, but cracking and petrified as we often see on toys of this age. The bell on the front does not ring anymore, but has most of the rigging and bell still attached. All of the firemen in the wagon are still attached via their original strings. However, the front left fireman does not have his seat post that holds him in to the seat, but he sits up in his seat as he should.

Our example of this cast iron Fire Patrol Wagon pairing is in great all original condition with no restorations, repairs, breaks or touch ups other than those mentioned previously. This piece shows the usual dust, patina, chips, scuffs, scratches, surface rusting and wear that are to be expected from age and play. This toy all together is approximately 22” L This is a very desirable cast iron toy and would be a great addition to any cast iron collection. We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.
