Rare Antique Primitive German Pull Toy Riding Horse on Wooden Platform Museum Piece *SOLD*

Rare Antique Primitive German Pull Toy Riding Horse on Wooden Platform Museum Piece

This rare piece comes to us from a museum and it is in beautiful condition for its age. It is a circa early 1900’s German pull toy horse that is also rideable. Since this piece is so rare, it was hard to find any exactly like it. However, according to the museum it is a German toy, we do see a lot of similarities to the Steiff pull toys and rideable horses of that time.

The horse is made of hand painted carved wood covered in brown burlap like material with leather ears.  The integrity of the fabric and its sewn edges are still very strong and well made. The eyes are made of glass and are clear and bright. The mane and tail are made of genuine horse hair and hide. The mane doesn’t have a lot of hair left on it, but it still is quite striking. The tail is matted a bit, but it seems to all be there. The saddle, reigns, and halter are made of leather with metal studs. The stirrups and bit are made of metal. The base is made of hand painted wood with wooden wheels. The horse is on pegs that fit in to the platform base, and can be removed to display without the base. The wheels and axles are attached firmly and the horse rolls nicely across the floor. The wooden base is approximately 21 ½” and the horses height is approximately 24”.

Overall, this piece is in excellent condition for its age and would be a great piece for any collection or museum.
