Metalcraft Corp. Pressed Steel Box Truck of St. Louis

This steel toy by Metalcraft is a great ad piece, even if it is for its own company.  Red, blue, and yellow  gains attention, and it is set of by realistic rubber wheels, an improvement over the earlier all steel wheels.

Ca 1932.  It is a tougher color combination to find and a Great Depression era toy.

The tailgate is original and present.

Condition for the Metalcraft truck is good original with chipping and wear.

 

 

A brief history of Metalcraft Corp. of St Louis, Missouri: 

1920 – 1938 

Founder: George R. Ericson  

Specialty: Playground equipment such as teeter-totters. They produced pressed-steel trucks in 1928 and acquired the rights to the pressed-steel airplane kit of Lindbergh’s “Spirit of St. Louis”. They produced millions of toy truck premiums known as “Business Leaders”; the Coca-Cola trucks with small glass Coke bottles were one of the most famous of these. Metalcraft Corporation, like so many others during the Great Depression, ended up closing their doors in 1938.
