Marx Buck Rogers “Rocket Police Patrol” Tin Windup Space Toy *SOLD*

Marx Buck Rogers “Rocket Police Patrol” Tin Windup Space Toy

We have for you an out of this world tin, windup, lithographed “Buck Rogers Rocket Police Patrol” space rocket manufactured by the Louis Marx & Company of New York City, New York.

In advertisements published in December 1934, this toy was advertised by Louis Marx & Co. as a “flashing roaring speeding sky police patrol rocket ship” that “shoots out harmless sparks as it darts across the floor.” Our iconic Buck Rogers rocket has a killer design and an evocative pinging windup sound; let’s call it a ray gun or warp drive sound. The working windup mechanism has a dedicated key and a start/stop lever. The start/stop lever works as it should. There is not a flint present, so it does not spark; we believe this can be replaced. As with many of these, the rear top tail fin is missing. However, the lithographs on this are bright and in super condition for its age.

Our example of this Marx “Buck Rogers Rocket Police Patrol” space rocket is in excellent all original condition with no breaks (other than the missing tail fin), restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. It is approximately 12” L. This would be a great and impressive addition to any collection. We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.

A brief history of Louis Marx & Company of New York City, New York:

Louis Marx and Company was an American toy manufacturer in business from about 1919 to 1980 founded in New York City by Louis & David Marx. Its products were often imprinted with the slogan, “One of the many Marx toys, have you all of them?” Arguably, Marx was the most well-known toy companies through the late mid-20th century. Best known for their lithographed tin windup toys Marx was also one of the big four among American electric train manufacturers. An interesting fact is that Marx also successfully revived the Yo-Yo in 1928; it sold well even through the Depression.
