This is a ca. 1920’s vertical steam engine/dampfmaschine #4107/6.5 manufactured by Marklin/Maerklin/Gebrüder Maerklin of Goppingen, Germany.

We did not fire this engine up, but the pistons and the flywheel spin as expected and operate smoothly by hand. The burner is included. The burner door is present, attached, and operates as it should. The oft lost water level glass gauge is intact. The top wooden handle to the valve is original. The front wooden handle has broken off, but is still included and able to be repaired.

Our example of this Maerklin/Gebrüder Maerklin live vertical steam engine is in excellent all original condition with no breaks (other than the wooden handle), restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. It is approximately 5” L x 5” W (at the base) and 12 ½” H. A brief history of Gebruder Maerklin (or Marklin) of Goppingen, Germany 

1859 to date 

Founder: Theodor Friedrich Wilhelm Märklin and his wife, Caroline Märklin 

Specialty: Originated as a maker of doll-sized tinplate kitchenware. When sons took over the business in 1888, firm name was changed to Gebruder Maerklin. Branched out to a variety of enameled tinplate boats, carousels, aeronautical toys. Unsurpassed in production of clockwork, steam, and electric trains. Introduced first standardized tinplate tracks in 1891. Maerklin switched to plastic train sets in the late 1950s.
