Ives Tin Clockwork “Vulcan” Locomotive Floor Train *SOLD*

Ives Tin Clockwork “Vulcan” Locomotive Floor Train

We have for you a tin clockwork “Vulcan” locomotive floor train that was manufactured by Ives Manufacturing Company/Ives and Blakeslee & Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut. We were able to find this in an 1885 Peck & Snyder catalog (see pictures.)

The clockwork mechanism works well, however, it is a bit weak on most surfaces. This comes with a key, either the one pictured or similar that isn’t original.

This piece is in fair to good all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories and wear that are to be expected from age and play. This is approximately 10” L.  We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.

A brief history of Ives Manufacturing Company of Plymouth/Bridgeport, Connecticut:

E.R. Ives & Co.
Plymouth, Connecticut

Ives moved to Bridgeport in 1870; by the 1880s, they were leaders in superb clockwork toys designed by Jerome Secor, Nathan Warner, and Arthur Hotchkiss. Ives also acted as jobber for other toy manufactures` toys. The firm filed for bankruptcy in 1929, another victim of the Depression. Lionel took over the company at that time, and the name Ives and Blakeslee remained until 1931.
