Hubley Cast Iron Lindy Airplane

Our gear driven Lindy airplane is a treat!  This is a solid cast iron toy with polished nickel front wheels.  The rear landing gear has the original rubber tire with bumps (from sitting in a position).

The blue color is quite a sought after variation and demands the biggest collector attention.  Most of these were made in gray.  The blue is then highlighted with gold “LINDY” lettering for Charles Lindbergh and the Spirit of St. Louis nod.

Condition is original and we do not see any cracks or repairs.  It is a spectacular and heavy toy with about a 11″ wing span.  There are chips and scuffs throughout as expected with authentic cast iron toys and in this case it is properly darkened with age to near black in color.

Please note that this is another sub-variation of the toy, with raised cast rudder lettering.  The call letters are then brushed over in gold. “NX211  RYAN  NYP”.  Then we get about 1/4 of a “Its a Hubley Toy!” sticker on the elevator top, next to the rudder.

This is the first time we have enjoyed the gear driven variation of the toy.  Hubley put a rear wheel gear to then turn a propeller shaft.  The shaft runs through the entirety of the plane and connects to the shinier propeller, likely of aluminum.  We suspect that the steel cord running inside the tube was replaced.  The mechanism works well and the prop spins during pull toy action and taxying.
