Steelcraft Pressed Steel Graf Zeppelin Pull Toy for Sale
Steelcraft Steel Graf Zeppelin Pull Toy
Our steel Graf Zeppelin toy is a very stout beauty from American company Steelcraft. Length is approximately 25″.
Historically, it is interesting to note that this is a ca. 1930 toy was a nod to the largest zeppelin of the time from Germany– Graf Zeppelin. It slipped into American toy production before the airship became propaganda.
After several long flights between 1928 and 1932, including one to the Arctic, Graf Zeppelin provided a commercial passenger and mail service between Germany and Brazil for five years. When the Nazi Party came to power, they used it as a propaganda tool. It was withdrawn from service after the Hindenburg disaster in 1937, and scrapped for military aircraft production in 1940.
Condition is all original with beautiful “Graf Zeppelin” stickers as well as an an American star on the top back.
The toy was intended to be a kids pull toy, as it has a pull string, large rear wheels, and a swiveling front roller.
These are challenging to find toy from the early American aeronautical days, and even more challenging in such good condition. Most went outside and succumb to the elements.
