Cox Thimble Drome Race Car with C.I.E. Pro Gas Engine *SOLD*
Cox Thimble Drome Race Car with C.I.E. Pro Gas Engine
Our silver Roy Cox Thimble Drome race car is beautiful! Â This is the more deluxe racer with Cox engine and side pipes sticking out.
Condition is good and detailing is great with black straps painted on as well as a hand painted race number.
Wheels appear original with wear.
The engine has not been tested, but the flywheel turns and there is compression.
Note that this CIE engine is extremely rare and likely is a diesel running engine design. Â That said, we see a spark plug and this is most likely a CIE gas derivative.
Cox Tether Car History
Tether cars, gas-powered model race cars, were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. Toys were raced individually while tethered to a central pivot, or against each other on a scaled-down board track. This box contained a kit from the L.M. Cox Manufacturing Company of Santa Ana, California. Company founder Roy Cox later expanded his business into slot cars and gas powered airplanes.
