Antique Shimer Cast Iron Horse and Carriage with Lady *SOLD*
Antique Shimer Cast Iron Horse and Carriage with Lady
We have a beautiful classic- Shimer’s nickel-plated toy horse with a lady carriage driver.
The toy is a larger scale with beautiful detail on the woman with dress. This would be unusual, as there aren’t too many toys with lady drivers.
A brief history of William Shimer & Sons Company of Freemansburg, Pennsylvania:
William Shimer & Sons Company of Freemansburg, Pennsylvania was founded by William Shimer and was in operation from 1875-1913. Shimer manufactured a line of cast iron toys including banks, trains, horse-drawn toys, and a few small automobiles around 1909-1910. Their toys often featured front foot oscillating mechanisms on the horses or oxen. Firecracker cannons made by Shimer & Sons Co. carried a patent date of April 23, 1895. They were made in a whole series of graduated sizes. After a fire that destroyed the factory, Shimer closed its doors in 1913.
The toy is original with darkening and nice nickel plating.
