Marusan San 1954 Chevrolet BelAir Japanese Tin Toy *SOLD*
Marusan tin car for sale– 1954 Chevy BelAir tin by San
Date: 1950’s
Material: Tin
Company: San aka Marusan and possibly Linemar
Size: Approximately 11″ long
Country of Origin: Japan
Condition: Beautiful original red and cream paint with very nice chrome/nickel trim. Slight aging to the trim as shown in pictures but appropriate for the age. Minor scuffs and scratches as shown. The bottom of the toy, for whatever reason, was repainted a semi-gloss black during the toy’s life. The friction momentum drive works as it should.
Notes: This color combination is quite impressive and a much rarer variation of the Chevy; most were painted in a gray coloration. The multi-colored lithographed tin interior adds a beautiful complement to the car’s design. Celluloid windows were likely replaced and there is no white fill in the fender trim. This is a very nice tin car with an impressive shelf presence.
Historical Notes: The Chevrolet Bel Air is a full-size automobile produced by Chevrolet for the 1950–1981 model years. Initially only the two door hardtops in the Chevrolet model range were designated with the Bel Air name from 1950 to 1952, as distinct from the Styleline and Fleetline models for the remainder of the range. With the 1953 model year the Bel Air name was changed from a designation for a unique body shape to a premium level of trim applied across a number of body styles. -Wikipedia.
