1950’s Marx Toys “Military Aeroplane” Tin Lithographed Windup U.S. Army Bomber Toy with Box *SOLD*

1950’s Marx Toys “Military Aeroplane” Tin Lithographed Windup Army Bomber Toy with Box

This is a ca. 1950’s tin lithographed wind up “Marx Military Aeroplane” manufactured by Louis Marx & Co. of New York City, New York. This item is nearly new old stock with original box that is in great condition. The box does show the usual wear that we see with boxes of this age, with some tears on the corners and flaps.

When wound with its dedicated key, this U.S. Army plane moves forward preparing for takeoff. The only thing that is controlled by the windup is the tin litho tires. The tires themselves say “Balloon” and “15 x 9.00”. The windup works strong as it should and the cart moves forward nicely.

Our example of this Marx “Military Aeroplane” is in excellent near mint all original condition with no restorations, repairs, breaks or touch ups. The design includes gunners on side behind wings and on top above stars. The lithos on this piece are strong and show very minimal of the usual patina, chips, scuffs, scratches, and wear that are normally found with age and play. It is approximately 14″ L x 18 ¼” W. This would be a great addition to any collection. We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.

A brief history of Louis Marx & Company of New York City, New York:

Louis Marx and Company was an American toy manufacturer in business from about 1919 to 1980 founded in New York City by Louis & David Marx. Its products were often imprinted with the slogan, “One of the many Marx toys, have you all of them?” Arguably, Marx was the most well-known toy companies through the late mid-20th century. Best known for their lithographed tin windup toys Marx was also one of the big four among American electric train manufacturers. An interesting fact is that Marx also successfully revived the Yo-Yo in 1928; it sold well even through the Depression.
