Steam
Steam toys trace back to 19th Century makers like Bing in Germany and Weeden in the U.S. with stationary models just like industry. Kids would then be “educated” about the real world machinery with these technical toys. They were, of course, dangerous and are much less common with today’s safety standards. Makers include Weeden, Mamod, Wilesco, to Marklin, Marx, Ives, Falk, Doll, Carette, Arnold, Wunderlich, Schooner, Plank, Muller, and Eberl and Becker among others. Steam toys actually work and involve fire or electricity to heat fluid and produce steam.
