Kenton Ride ‘Em Cowboy Toy Cap Gun with Box *SOLD*
Kenton Ride ‘Em Cowboy Cap Gun with Box For Sale *Pending*
Killer Kenton Cowboy Gun- Our estate toy comes with its box as well as original belt and faux-bullet accessories. The cap gun book by Best has this as a 1933 toy.
The cap gun was a dual type that could shot caps or rubber bands. Note the projecting bar that comes above the barrel when the hammer is cocked. This toy has a dual action and was sold by kenton. As for the box and holster, we see a New Jersey marking on the holster. It could be a Kenton set or could be a set made by a NJ leather/playset maker.
“Cape May, NJ” or New Jersey is marked on the holster. Write to us if you know why, was this a store or NJ waterfront souvenir?
Condition is very good, but there is corrosion where the corrosive caps darkened inside the cap holder and hamer area. The box and toy are unrestored originals.
The entire set is extremely rare and a treat.
Kenton Hardware Co. Kenton, Ohio
1890 – 1952
Founder: F.M. Perkins (Patented line of refrigerator hardware).
Specialty: Toy production began in 1894 with a line of horse-drawn fire equipment, banks, and toy stoves. Renamed Kenton Hardware in 1900. Became part of mammoth National Novelty Corp. merger in 1903, it continued its toy line under the name Wing Mfg. Co. Involved in several unsuccessful takeovers, it eventually emerged as a separate unit, the Kenton Hardware Co., and again produced toys successfully from 1920-1935. Kenton ceased production in 1952 and assets were sold in 1953. The Littlestown Hardware & Foundry acquired many Kenton toy designs and marketed them under the brand “Utexiqual”. Littlestown folded in 1982.
