George Brown Tin House Bank *SOLD*
George Brown Tin House Bank For Sale
Our beautiful George Brown penny bank comes by way of NJ and a long time tin collector. Â It is a beautiful gingerbread flourished Victorian home with steep peaks and a single chimney.
George Brown is America’s pre-eminent 1870’s tinsmith. Â Brown is also a well cataloged thanks to a 1970’s reprint of his sketchbook. Â Our example is a variant of the catalog item 200 “Elaborate cottage bank with gingerbread tin” and it is distinctly George Brown.
The bank has original condition walls and windows, stenciled in by hand and then a repainted roof. Â It fluoresces, but the work is excellent and aged. Â The rear bank door is held by a wire latch.
