Desirable Fischer Tin Windup Bicycle Toy Motorcycle German Toy *SOLD*

Desirable Tin Bicycle Windup Toy By Fischer of Germany, with Motorcycle features

Our early bike/motorcycle toy is an extremely desirable and likely a 1910’s item by Fischer.  It has the desirable had painted rider features and dons an articulated rider that moves at the hips and knees.  We mention it as both a bike and a motorcycle, because at the turn of the century, motorbikes aka motorcycles, were just bicycles with engines.

The windup is an internal mechanism that doesn’t obscure the beauty of the toy.  It is a clean design with delicate spokes on the wheels and thin supports for a rear fender.  The seat is tan and body of the bicycle a deep blue with pin striping.

The Motorcyle/bike body has some loose tabs that could be tightened.  It was left as-is.

As depicted by a later Fischer catalog, this is a design that evolved into a simpler toy.  Ours is the early one, with moving legs as the windup is set on the ground.  Even the chain moves as the toy rolls and sprockets turn.

In attributing the toy, we have the catalog as extremely strong proof. Wheels and spokes are dead ringers, front forks and rear frame designs are spot on.  Sock designs and the top checkering are matches.  Even the sweep of the handlebar are matches.

Readers will also note the head and cap shape are found on other toys by Fischer.  Another motorcycle with fixed rider has the same look, but that other design uses an external windup at the rear wheel (this toy must have been difficult to maintain).

As a final note, we are confident that this is Fischer due to the gloss and paint style coupled with lithography styles.  The German company did magnificent work and this is no exception.  -A toy that combines looks, mechanisms, age, and a hand wrought touch.
