Pass The Hat Bank (Lincoln Top Hat) ca 1882 *SOLD*
Pass The Hat Bank (Lincoln Top Hat) ca 1882
Our Cast Iron Pass Around the Hat bank is close to 3″ high and around 2.5″ in diameter. Â It comes to us via a North Dakota estate and is with original screw and in original condition. Â There is an association with its form and the top hat used by Abraham Lincoln, President of the U.S. Â Its manufacturing date is circa the 1880’s and it could have stretched into the early 20th century.
Deposit a coin in the bottom of the hat for a quick savings bank. Â Unscrew the top and brim to remove the coins.
Condition is very good and original with no touchups. Â In fact paint condition is much better than examples we have seen before. There are abrasions and chips around the coin slot as expected with an antique bank. Surface finish is relatively smooth with some high spots and spotting, something completely in line with an authentic toy penny bank and over 100 years of age.
