Arcade Cast Iron Mack Coal Truck For Sale

Big, heavy, read, and detailed, this coal truck is a top-of-the-line toy from the 1930’s.  The red color has almost a coral sheen to it an the “COAL” emblazoned on the side is white paint.  Tires are original and a hard rubber with silver painted rims.  Details have natural and nickel finish.

As shown, it is an impressive size at around 11″ in length and of near solid cast-iron heft.  The toy features the solid MACK truck front end and then an “X” style jack for raising and lowering coal into position (in the real truck).  The jack does a combination raise and tilt.

The driver is original and nickel plated iron.  Highlights on the toy are in the desirable gold paint over high points.  MACK appears on both doors and also the detailed tail gate.

Our model comes later in the 1930’s and production was light, as the country geared up for war; production then stopped.

The truck is all original.  Note that normally these tires turn hard and this is the case, but these are in great condition.  The paintwork on these years tends to flake, as seen on our toy.  It has happened on most toys we have seen.  The bed has some wear on inside as expected with a light toy load & play.

It is quite a desirable toy variation and one of the more expensive of the Arcade Toys lineup. Quite a prize for cast iron collectors. This truck is approximately 10 ¼” x 3 ¾” (at its widest). We encourage you to examine the photographs to further determine condition and quality.

A brief history of Arcade Manufacturing Company of Freeport, Illinois:

The Arcade Manufacturing Company of Freeport, Illinois was originally founded as Novelty Iron Works by Edward H. and Charles Morgan in 1868, and conducted business in two small buildings with a staff of ten people.

The company operated between the years 1868 to 1946. They began making toys and coffee mills and then moved to a new site in 1893 (after fires, financial issues, and changing their name from Novelty Iron Works). 

Arcade toy catalogs appear to start at 1902 and as late as 1939. Arcade`s toy line included over 300 toy items. Yellow Cab was their first successful toy followed by Andy Gump in 348 and Chester Gump in His Pony Cart. Arcade also made toy banks, doll house furniture, and cast-iron penny toys.
