Salesman Sample York Installment Co. Chicago, IL *SOLD*
This is a dangerous foray into the incredible collecting arena of Salesman’s samples. Our Ringer/Dryer machine was a scale model of the real deal, circa 1900 or so. It was made by the York Installment Co of Chicago, IL.
The toy or model features fold down drying racks. They can also latch up rather than fold down. Then each wringer had massive metal gears and a crank arm for drying.
Condition is very good to excellent except for one top area around the set screw. The screw broke a chunk of wood out and the area could be repaired. We chose to leave it as-is, as the sample looks fine.
The model is an incredible survivor and would great in a collection of primitives or a salesman sample collection.
Historically, this has been a very tough one to track down. We found a very similar “ANTIQUE BELKNAP BLUE GRASS 321 CLOTHES WRINGER” pictured to the side. We’ve also found a near match with an Anchor Brand Clothes Wringer. It was from 1896, giving an approximate date on our sample.
