Bing ca. 1930 Steam Powered Carousel 10/293 Variation from the Hirschberg Collection *SOLD*
Bing ca. 1930 Tin Steam Powered Carousel 10/293 Variation from the Hirschberg Collection
This is a nice ca. 1930’s tin, lithographed & hand painted carousel steam toy accessory made by Gebrüder Bing of Nuremberg, Germany.
This is in original condition, white and green carousel from the Morton Hirschberg collection and a less deluxe version of the carousel #10/295 found in Hirschberg’s steam toy book “Steam Toys: A Symphony in Motion” pg. 45. This was a treat we had to enjoy for a while and then are adopting it out. If you don’t have it, get the book! These steam toys are under appreciated in some circles and deserve more spotlight.
The flag and figures rotate– a tin ostrich, gondola with figures, and horse with figure. Each tin is lithographed. Then the round gazebo/carousel is made with green spray highlights on a white, likely hand painted, base. Motion works well if hand turned, but the toy was engineered for steam powered belts to go on the external wheel. It sounds complicated, but look at this as a piece of art for hand or steam turning.
This piece is in excellent all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories and wear that are to be expected from age and play. This is approximately 4 ½” D x 7 ½” H (10″ including flag.) We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.
