1950s Modern Toys Friction X-5 Space Ship Rocket *SOLD*

1950s Masudaya Modern Toys Friction X-5 Space Ship Rocket + Bonus

For all the Retro Sci-Fi Nerds like myself, this Tin Ship by Masudaya just pulls at your heartstrings.

The super retro design and bright lithography really make this a great display piece. Also, it has the ability to be posed vertically, which honestly to me is the way to go. For science….

The toy has a friction motor that powers the rear left wheel and also drives a sparking wheel for the engine. The flint on the wheel has long lost its efficacy and the motor is a bit sluggish.

There is some mild scratching across the body, but the litho remains very vibrant.

Included with the X-5 is a bonus “Rocket Racer” Tin friction ship. Known China make by Schylling, but hey, it’s included! More ships I say! More Ships!

X-5 Measures approx. 12” Long

A brief history of Masudaya Modern Toys (MT) of Tokyo, Japan:

Masudaya also known as Masudaya Modern Toys was a tin toy manufacturer that was founded in 1923 in Tokyo, Japan. Masudaya was one of the leading builder of tin type mechanical and battery operated toys in the post-World War II era. Unlike many of their competitors Masudaya managed to survive to this day, due in part to their involvement in the airsoft gun craze of the 1980’s. They are mostly known for basically creating the “skirmishable” airsoft guns that could be used for combat simulations rather than target shooting. Masudaya normally identifies their toys using the M-T, or Modern Toys logo.
